AUTOMATION is needed to meet the needs of the rising manufacturing industry, according to Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo.
He highlighted the importance of automation during his tour of tech firm Pentamaster Corp Berhad in Bayan Lepas today.
“Penang is not only the main industrial hub in our country, but it is also a global player in services and chip manufacturing.
“Automation is now imperative on the global stage, and the state is committed to driving such initiatives. We will also explore further collaboration with the colleges and universities to meet the talent needs.
“Apart from that, I was also made to understand that the chips meant for electric vehicles (EVs) around the globe are also being made here. This is something that we should be proud of,” he said.
During the tour, Jagdeep was briefed by Group executive chairman Chuah Choon Bin on the facilities of the firm.
Jagdeep also assured that the state would work towards its initiative to reduce carbon emissions, stating that more charging ports would be initiated to meet the EV industry’s needs.
Chuah thanked Jagdeep for visiting Pentamaster Corp Berhad and hoped for increased collaboration to provide skilled talent for the country.
“I am glad the state can witness itself the importance of local industry players in Penang, and automation is the way forward now,” he added.
Among those present during the visit was Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer William Khoo Boo Wooi.
